Kicking off the New Year, NCL Norwegian Gem offers 11- and 12-day voyages to and from NYC and Panama City in January-February 2023. During her 12-day cruise from New York City on January 2, she debuts in Puerto Limon and the Pacific Cruise Terminal in Panama City during an 11-day trip on January 14. Different NCL Ship Classes
I particularly love the "Jetsons" futuristic-style design and the multicolored mood lighting. Norwegian Epic was the first Norwegian ship with an exclusive solos zone, and it was such a hit the line later added them to eight more vessels. That said, Norwegian Sky has its allures, one of which is that it has a much more intimate feel than the line's bigger vessels. It's a great choice for adults on a budget who are satisfied with the basics. The entryway to each of these ships, for instance, deposits you at the three-story-high Penrose Atrium, which may be the most beautiful atrium of any big ship at sea. The Breakaway- and Breakaway Plus-class ships have innovative outdoor promenades called The Waterfront lined with seating for many restaurants and bars. The Waterfront is located on Deck 8 of each of the ships, which is one of the main decks for restaurants on them all. If you want an intimate cruise experience, Norwegian probably isn't a good choice. As you can see from their list below, the oldest one (NCL Sky) is just 14 years old. NCL ships are big (to really large), well-equipped, offering feature amenities and onboard activities, and sailing worldwide. All NCL liners (except NCL Jewel) were refurbished by the end of 2017 (Jewel in 2018). The "Norwegian Edge" project covered 11 vessels - all older ships launched before NCL Breakaway (2013). On all these ships NCL added new venues, and did extensive restaurant makeovers (La Cucina Italian, Cagney's Steakhouse, Le Bistro French, Moderno Churrascaria Brazilia).
Dawn Class
It's the second ship in Norwegian's new Prima Class of vessels, which began debuting in 2022 with the arrival of Norwegian Prima. That said, passengers who are 18 to 20 can purchase and consume beer or wine on ships in international waters with permission from parents or legal guardians. The parent or legal guardian must be on board and sign a waiver at guest services. The lower drinking age in international waters does not apply during sailings in Alaska and Hawaii. On all ships, smoking (including e-cigarette smoking) is only allowed in designated outdoor areas, cigar lounges (for cigar smoking only) and casinos.
Including the just-unveiled Norwegian Viva, that's a 28% increase in its fleet size in just five years. The Prima Class vessels are under construction at a Fincantieri shipyard near Monfalcone, Italy. Additionally, three more ships in this Prima Class series are on order for delivery in 2026, 2027 and 2028, respectively.
